This book is written by full time RVing 'technomads' Chris and Cherie of Technomadia. As we work online running our software development business remotely,internet is essential to allow us to travel full time. In this handbook, we share everything we've learned about assembling a mobile internet arsenal that is balanced for your budget and needs for connectivity. We base this off our extensive real world experience of navigating the varying options and frustrations as full time RVers since 2006. The book covers cellular, WiFi, satellite, HAM, cable/DSL, boosting, hints & tricks, managing bandwidth and most importantly – setting your expectations for what life on the road with mobile internet is like. Information you need to know to help understand your options and build your own arsenal to suit your needs. This handbook is geared specifically towards US based internet options, and does not specifically cover international travel. And more precisely, it is geared towards frequent or full-time RVers and road warriors, although frequent US travelers will probably find plenty of useful information too. Our aim with the book is not to provide a shopping list of gear to go purchase, but rather give you enough information to build your own unique mobile internet arsenal. While we do cover specific products, we do not have financial interest in any of the devices, services or products mentioned. We are frequently referred to as 'tech-Switzerland', and simply share our opinions and experiences. This book is written to help those with minimal tech backgrounds to geeks like us; and for folks who just need a little e-mail & surfing, to fellow bandwidth junkies. Chris and Cherie each have decades of combined technology experience. Chris has worked in the mobile technology industry for over a decade and holds degrees in computer engineering and science. Cherie has been a location independent software developer since the mid-90s. And together we have been on the road working remotely full time since 2006. Our home on wheels is a living laboratory for mobile technology, and we are delighted to share our experience with you.

This book provides a lot of information on connectivity options and issues. I read this book before embarking on a year long trip to get ideas about how to stay connected. For example, we split up our smart phone and iPad cellular between ATT and Verizon. My wife and I are are now in our eighth month of full time RVing and Chris' advice on being flexible and having multiple connection options is very good advice. We have stayed in RV parks and campgrounds all over North America and we have had mostly acceptable connectivity for everything but video streaming using our iPads over cellular as a hot spot and the wifi when available. In the middle of the Navajo Nation only our ATT smart phones worked and we were "Off Network" or roaming. In a fairly remote RV Park in Canada we had screaming fast internet over the parks wifi. Its hard to know what your going to have to work with until you get there and check it out for yourself.I did not give this five stars, perhaps unfairly, because even after reading this book you still have a lot of figuring out to do for yourself. Overall I would recommend this book as a great place to start for anyone heading out on an extended trip and needing to stay connected.

A bit dated but had helpful ideas. Should make 2018-19 update
You spend tens of thousands of dollar on an RV, you pay cell phone bills and invest a lot of time and money to be able to communicate while you are on the road. This little simple book, only priced at a few dollars REALLY help you and will save you not only money but also maybe a trip to the ER after trying all things a lot of unknowledgeble "smart" sellers are trying to sell to you.
Simple JUST BUY IT.
I loved the handbook. It is current as far as the technology covered. I am just getting started as a full-time RVer and this book gave me the info to setup my RV properly for connectivity.
My only complaint is the small size, It's 6" x 7" with very small font. It looks like it was setup originally to be printed as an 8.5" by 11" book. I suggest the next revision be printed that way. (Which I will also buy.)

I've been following Technomadia for some time, so I knew they know what they're talking about. When it comes to explaining technology, connecting (and staying connected) to the Internet and what works (and what doesn't) in an RV, Chris & Cherie have a corner on the market. Believe me, setting yourself up to connect to the Internet get's a lot more complicated when you're dealing with a house on wheels. But this book explains it in very *un*complicated language. One of their best tips Noting works all the time in ever situation, so there is no magic solution. You're best prepared by having several options because at one time or another, you're going to need them. This lays them out for you. It helped me tremendously. Would highly recommend both the book and their website.
This is a great book that takes the mystery out of mobile computing and gives some good starting points for equipment selection and expectations for newcomers. If you are already familiar with this stuff you might think it pretty basic but if not it should save you from getting tied into a contract on equipment and services that are of no use out there on the road. Naturally this can't be up to the minute as technology changes so rapidly but with the links provided at least you can quickly find the latest information
This is written by the good folks Technomadia, and they have done us a good service with this book! True pioneers, Chris and Cherie work from the road and are masters at finding an internet connection just about anywhere. In this book they share what has worked for them, what hasn't, and how we can travel and take the internet with us. An inspiring book and idea. Well worth the time and money.

Even those of us who don't get to RV very often, choose to have 'mobile' internet.
This book is an excellent source of information about staying connected while on the road -- including connection by phone and internet.
It spells out facts I have not found elsewhere, about which national carriers provide how much of what. It indicates what you should watch out for, and share how to determine if you really are getting 4G. Plus, it shares how to increase your signal, via boosters and aerials. Lots more in the book, than just this, however.
